Baskets

Baskets are one of the most commonly used holders for flowers alongside bouquets and vases. A flower basket has the added advantage of mobility, and the basket itself can be eye catching and intricate itself.

Florists won’t often have a plain basket for sale, but you may keep the basket that the flower arrangement came in. The online florist of your choice should have a range of seasonal flower baskets to suit your needs, along with gift, wine and chocolate baskets as well.

How to Make a Flower Basket

Unless you’re an expert weaver, creating a basket from scratch may be a little too much effort and time. However if you have an old or new plain basket, there are several steps you can take to sprucing it up with some creative flair.

Materials Needed for a Flower Basket

  • A Basket – Whether it’s second-hand or new, as long as it will fit the flowers and look timely itself.
  • Adhesive Glue – Preferably a strong super glue and a general use paper glue.
  • Materials – Lace, Satin, Ribbon – Whatever you have or can get from an arts and crafts store.
  • Optional – Thick String or Hook – If you want to make a hanging basket, you can loop a hook, string or any improvised material to hang off the ceiling or ornament.

How to Craft the Basket

  • Get your basket, one with enough nooks and crannies to paste and stick your materials. Clean it if necessary.
  • Think about whether you’ll need to add the flowers or the materials first – depending on the arrangement and the basket itself, it may be easier one way or the other.
  • You’ll almost certainly have a ribbon bow on your basket. See this short instructional video on tying a ribbon bow if you’re not sure how to.
  • You can leave the handle untouched for an untouched natural appeal, or bind lace around it. A dab of strong glue at each end of the lace strip should be sufficient.

The rest is up to your imagination. If you don’t feel confident creating a basket yourself, you can always choose from a pre-designed flower basket made by a practiced florist or talk to them about your function and have one custom designed to fit your needs.
